Die Arbeit befasst sich mit dem für die Psychotherapie (aller Schulen) zentralen „Rettungsphantasie“: Psychotherapeuten als Retter ihrer Patienten, ja der ganzen Menschheit. Der Autor zeigt dieses Motiv in seiner unterschiedlichen Ausprägung bei Freud und Ferenczi und befasst sich mit den dahinterstehenden Idealisierungen, Allmachtsphantasien und dem utopischen Denken, Utopien als Movens menschlichen Handelns wie auch heilenden Tuns, aber auch mit ihren illusionären und totalisierenen Gefahren. Bermans Text zeigt, wie solche Phantasien bis in die klinische Konzeptbildung und Praxis durchschlagen.

This text is dealing with the topic of „recue phantasies“ central for psychotherapy (of all schools): Psychotherapists as rescuers/saviours of their patients and even of the whole of mankind. The author expounds on this topic in the work of Freud and Ferenczi and is dealing with the idealizations, phantasies of omnipotence and utopic thinking behind them. Utopias are moving impulses for human activities and also for the practice of healing and they are not free from illusions and dangers. The text of Berman shows how these phantasies are even impregnating clinical concepts and practice.
